Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma of English Literature. In the year 1967, Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. Then she became a reporter with the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. She then became a Washington general correspondent with NBC News two years later. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office by 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and was named chief foreign affairs correspondent in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has appeared as a host as well as a panelist on the TV news program Meet the Press. She joined the panel during the 1988 presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news stories including arms control, taxes on the budget, as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also went to various summits while in the company of the president Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
